A black bear sighted wandering in East Vancouver this week has been safely relocated to North Vancouver.

Vancouver Police Department officers responded to reports of the bear near Commercial Drive and Grandview Highway around 1 a.m. on Tuesday. Patrol officers tracked down the animal, with the Emergency Response Team stepping in when it ventured too close to nearby people.

Officers contained the bear as it moved toward the Hastings and Commercial intersection and summoned the B.C. Conservation Officer Service. Conservation officers arrived, tranquilized the bear, and transported it safely away from the urban area.

No injuries occurred during the incident. The bear recovered from the tranquilizer and was released without charges. Police shared a video and photo of the “furry suspect” on social media to update the public.
