Arsenal Fan Harassed by PSG Supporters in Paris
Shocking footage has emerged from Paris showing a lone Arsenal supporter on a bicycle being jeered and physically accosted by a group of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) fans. The incident occurred following the Champions League final, where Arsenal suffered a devastating loss to their opponents in a penalty shootout.
Harrowing Encounter Captured on Video
The video depicts an Arsenal fan, identifiable by his retro team jersey, attempting to navigate through a crowd of PSG supporters on his bike. As he slowly moved forward, members of the group began to tug at his shirt, push him, and taunt him in French. Several individuals were observed grabbing him by the scruff of his neck.
The fan pleaded for the group to stop, appearing visibly distressed by the aggressive behavior. He eventually managed to break free and cycle away. However, as he departed, some PSG fans reportedly pushed him again and began a pursuit, which was captured as the video concluded.
Widespread Unrest Follows Champions League Final
This incident took place amidst a backdrop of significant public disorder across France in the wake of PSG’s victory. Reports indicate widespread riots, leading to the arrest of approximately 400 individuals. Major outbreaks of chaos and disruption were noted in Paris, Rennes, Strasbourg, and Grenoble.
Casualties and Arrests Reported
Tragically, one fan lost their life, and another was admitted to intensive care following the unrest. In Paris, a police investigation has been initiated into the stabbing of a 17-year-old man near the Champs-Élysées, who sustained multiple injuries and is in critical condition. Separately, a 23-year-old man died after his motorbike collided with a concrete barrier.
The Paris prosecutors’ office stated that 277 individuals have been formally taken into police custody, including 82 minors. Allegations range from assaulting police officers to theft, vandalism, and public order disturbances.
Further Incidents and Official Response
Beyond individual assaults, a serious traffic accident occurred when a driver lost control of a vehicle, crashing into a restaurant’s outdoor seating area and injuring two people, one critically. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez reported that a total of 57 officers sustained injuries across 15 cities.
Despite the widespread violence, planned victory celebrations for the PSG team on Sunday afternoon at the Champ de Mars were slated to proceed as scheduled. Minister Nunez issued a warning that authorities would respond with “firmness and determination” to any further instances of violence. The PSG team is also expected to be hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée presidential palace.
