Football Legend Alan Shearer Partners for World Cup Fan Engagement Initiative

Former England captain Alan Shearer has teamed up with betting firm Betfair to launch a new fan engagement platform called ‘Hot Take Hotline’ in anticipation of this summer’s World Cup. The initiative aims to provide supporters with a direct channel to voice their opinions and engage with a football icon.

The tournament is set to commence soon, with England’s opening group match scheduled for June 17 against Croatia. As excitement builds for the global showpiece event being held across North America, Betfair is offering fans the chance to share their perspectives with Shearer, both in the lead-up to and during England’s campaign.

Fans Invited to Share ‘Hot Takes’ with Shearer

Shearer is set to address the most prominent and bold opinions submitted by fans nationwide on a weekly basis. This segment will commence with England’s preparatory matches, beginning with their fixture against New Zealand over the weekend.

During the platform’s launch, Shearer offered a candid response to a football enthusiast who questioned his status as a Premier League all-time great, citing a single league title in 18 years and a managerial stint that concluded with relegation. The fan’s query stated: ‘One Premier League title in 18 years, and an eight-game managerial spell that ended in relegation shouldn’t qualify someone as a Premier League all-time great, should it?’

Shearer retorted, ‘That’s one Premier League title more than you.’

Betfair Highlights Fan Passion for Football

James Mackie, a spokesperson for Betfair, commented on the initiative: ‘When it comes to England at a World Cup, everyone and their nan has an opinion. At Betfair, we love to celebrate those big bold takes that make football the beautiful game. So, we’ve launched Shearer’s Hot Take Hotline to give fans the opportunity to put their steaming opinions to an English football legend, and each week Alan will call it how it is.’

Alan Shearer’s Hot Take Hotline is scheduled to be a recurring weekly feature throughout the 2026 World Cup. Fans interested in participating can share their opinions by calling 0800-707-4073. Calls originating from within the UK are free of charge.
