West Coast Eagles Player Faces Tribunal Over On-Field Incident
West Coast Eagles forward Malakai Champion has been referred to the WAFL tribunal following an allegation of serious misconduct during a recent match. The incident reportedly occurred in the second quarter of the Eagles’ victory against Swan Districts last Saturday.
Details of the Alleged Misconduct
Champion, 20, who had been playing in the club’s reserves side in an effort to improve recent form, is accused of blowing his nose onto an opponent’s playing jersey. Reports suggest the alleged action involved blocking one nostril and expelling mucus from the other in the direction of a rival player. This alleged act has been described as a ‘bushman’s blow’.
The West Coast Eagles organization has declined to comment on the matter, citing that it is currently under review by the WAFL tribunal.
Background and Previous Incidents
Champion has made 10 appearances in the AFL to date, with eight of those occurring during the 2026 season. He debuted in 2025 and has scored four goals throughout his AFL career.
This is not the first instance of incidents involving bodily fluids during the current AFL season. Earlier this year, the AFL tribunal issued sanctions against North Melbourne Kangaroos player Tristan Xerri for smearing blood on the face of Essendon captain Andrew McGrath.
