Singer Sabrina Carpenter Granted Permanent Restraining Order
Singer Sabrina Carpenter has successfully obtained a permanent restraining order against an individual who repeatedly appeared at her Los Angeles residence. The artist, known for her hit song “Please Please,” had sought protection from William Applegate following his arrests on her property on multiple occasions.
Legal Proceedings and Court Order
A judge in the Los Angeles County Superior Court has mandated that Applegate, 31, must maintain a distance of 100 meters from Carpenter, her sister Sarah, and Sarah’s boyfriend George for the next five years. Applegate reportedly testified in court to contest the restraining order but was unsuccessful in his efforts to dissuade the judge.
Earlier this month, a temporary restraining order was issued after Carpenter’s team filed for protection on May 19. Court documents indicate that Carpenter’s representatives described Applegate’s approach as “deliberate, calculated and aggressive, which is deeply alarming.”
Allegations of Repeated Trespassing
According to the legal filing, Applegate allegedly arrived at the singer’s Los Angeles home without invitation or prior notice on May 23. Law enforcement officers were called to the scene and subsequently arrested him. The filing further alleges that Applegate returned to the property less than 24 hours later, reportedly leaving after being confronted by security personnel. Documents also suggest another alleged return to the property on May 25, which prompted another police response. Photographs depicting a man at Carpenter’s front door were reportedly included as evidence in the court filing.
Singer’s Statement and Intruder’s Defense
In her declaration, Carpenter stated, “William Applegate is a complete stranger to me. I have never met him or communicated with him in any way. I have no desire to meet him or communicate with him.”
Applegate, in his defense, requested the court to deny the permanent order. He contended that the order was not sought by Carpenter willingly but was initiated by her security team, the Los Angeles Police Department, and her legal counsel, describing it as a result of “maligned instructions” from a “military government program.” He also alleged that Carpenter and her family were aware of his presence outside her residence since April and claimed her performances at the Coachella festival were directed at him.
