Nearly two decades after its release, the beloved 2008 teen comedy Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging remains a nostalgic touchstone for millennials. Now, one of its stars has revealed a recent reunion with a co-star and expressed hope for a sequel that would reunite the original cast.
Eleanor Tomlinson Reflects on Fond Memories
Eleanor Tomlinson, who played the iconic role of Jas in the film, shared her enduring affection for the project while promoting her upcoming series The Fortune. She described the experience as deeply special and revealed a heartwarming catch-up with fellow cast member Georgia Henshaw, who portrayed Rosie.
“I look back so fondly on it,” Tomlinson said. “Interestingly, only last week I met up with Georgia Henshaw, and we’ve not seen each other for 18 years. We met up, and it was like no time had passed at all. It was unbelievable.”
She elaborated on the unique dynamics of working as a young actor, noting the supportive behind-the-scenes network of parents and chaperones. “When you’re working that young, what you don’t see behind the scenes is your mums or the chaperones, or the fact that you have to be tutored. There’s a whole family around you… our mums came too, and it was just great.”
Sequel Hopes and Co-Star Connections
When asked about the possibility of a sequel, Tomlinson expressed enthusiasm. “It was really, really special. It’s just very special, and it was wonderful to be a part of. And, you know, I hope they do a sequel and see us all now as old, haggard people – that would be brilliant.”
The original film launched the careers of several actors, including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who played the heartthrob Robbie. Tomlinson, who shared her first on-screen kiss with Taylor-Johnson in an earlier project The Illusionist, acknowledged that their paths have not crossed recently. “I’m not, no. Aaron and I first worked together on The Illusionist so we go way, way back! He was actually my first ever kiss – which was on screen, I hasten to add – which was so sweet. I just remember being absolutely terrified.”
She added, “Obviously he’s gone on to become a mega star, and it’s amazing. I’m sure if we bumped into each other, it would be absolutely fine. It’s just our paths haven’t crossed again. But who knows, maybe they will.”
Legacy of a Beloved Film
Directed by Gurinder Chadha, best known for Bend It Like Beckham, the film remains a cultural touchstone for a generation. While no official sequel plans have been announced, Tomlinson’s comments have reignited fan speculation about a potential follow-up that would catch up with the characters as adults.
For now, fans can revisit the original film and keep an eye on the careers of its stars, including Taylor-Johnson, who has since appeared in major projects like Nosferatu, 28 Years Later, and Kraven the Hunter.
