Veteran Actress Anne Schedeen Passes Away at 77

Actress Anne Schedeen, widely recognized for her role as Kate Tanner in the popular 1980s sitcom ALF, has died at the age of 77. The news was confirmed by her family in a heartfelt announcement on social media.

A statement shared on a Facebook page dedicated to the actress conveyed the profound sadness of her passing. “It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share Annie has passed peacefully,” the message read. “She leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of creative energy, whip smart humor, delight in her family, adoration for little dogs, passion for second-hand thrifting, and love for a good story.”

Her relatives described Schedeen as a “force” and expressed the difficulty of imagining life without her. “We are bereft without her. We loved her so so much, as did all who met her,” the statement continued, adding, “But as she said, ‘I’m always with you.’ And she’s right.”

A Legacy of Joy and Creativity

The memorial message highlighted the enduring impact of Schedeen’s life. “The memories, artwork, belly laughter, handmade jewelry, oil paintings, sculptures, costumes, and all around joie de vivre live on. Raise a margarita in her honor … we all love you, Annie.”

Schedeen’s agent, Tom Markley, also issued a statement, noting, “Annie meant the world to her family and this agency.”

Throughout her career, Schedeen appeared in numerous television programs during the 1970s and 80s, with her portrayal of the matriarch in ALF becoming her most enduring role. The show, which ran from 1986 to 1990, followed the antics of a wisecracking alien living with the Tanner family.

Schedeen is survived by her husband of 55 years, Christopher Barrett, their daughter Tay Barrett, daughter-in-law Hilary Flynn, her sister Sarabeth Schedeen, niece Minnie Land, brother Roland ‘Tony’ Schedeen, sister-in-law Julieann Schedeen, and her beloved rescue dogs, Roo and Red.
