Singer Bonnie Tyler Wakes Up After Medically Induced Coma
Renowned singer Bonnie Tyler has awakened from a medically induced coma following a cardiac arrest suffered in Portugal last month. The 75-year-old Welsh star, known for her powerful vocals, remains in serious condition, according to an update from her representatives.
Health Update Confirms Singer is Conscious
A spokesperson for Tyler confirmed, “Bonnie is no longer in a coma, but remains seriously ill.” This news follows previous statements from May indicating that the singer was hospitalized in Faro but was in stable condition. At that time, her management expressed optimism for a full recovery.
Family Addresses Rumors and Seeks Privacy
Tyler’s family has reportedly expressed disappointment over circulating rumors, emphasizing that specific individuals do not represent them or have contact regarding her health. They have requested that the media cease speculation and allow for privacy during this challenging period, noting that such rumors cause distress to family, friends, and fans.
Background on Singer’s Hospitalization
It is understood that Tyler entered the induced coma after experiencing a cardiac arrest. This occurred after life-saving surgery for emergency bowel surgery and a perforated intestine. Tyler, who owns property on the Algarve, was initially treated at a private hospital before being transferred to Faro Hospital. She had reportedly been feeling unwell for some time in April, leading to her admission to the hospital on April 30.
Previous Health Developments
Earlier reports indicated that the surgery went well and Tyler was recuperating. She was initially described as stable in an intermediate care unit before her health reportedly worsened, necessitating a transfer to intensive care.
Long-term friend Liberto Mealha shared that friends were praying for positive news, acknowledging that while doctors were positive about the situation, progress was slow. Mealha, who met Tyler in the 1980s, was unable to visit her in intensive care.
