A fierce early-morning blaze tore through a restaurant at Club Med Bali in Nusa Dua, prompting the evacuation of guests including several Australian families. The fire erupted around 7 a.m. local time on Friday, with flames bursting through the roof of the second-level buffet area and rapidly spreading across the complex. Firefighters battled the intense flames amid thick black smoke, while holidaymakers watched from a safe distance after being roused by alarms.

Swift Evacuation and No Injuries Reported

The resort’s straw roof collapsed quickly under the heat, but emergency teams extinguished the fire without any casualties. Guests were swiftly moved to a nearby beach, where staff provided water, set up a children’s play area with games and crafts, and operated the beach bar to meet immediate needs.

Eyewitness Account from Australian Guest

Haley Priest, vacationing with her young family from Mudgee in central-west New South Wales, recounted being woken by fire alarms as smoke filled their room. “Staff cleared every room, even though the rooms were not in imminent danger,” Priest said. “There was minimal panic, and we did not at all feel unsafe during the process. By 7:30 a.m., we all had bottles of water. Staff, including upper management, were checking in with all the guests and keeping us informed.”

Her family returned to their room by 8:30 a.m., highlighting the staff’s “superhuman” efforts in managing the crisis.

Resort Operations Resume

Club Med Bali has confirmed that all guests and staff remain safe. “Resort operations are continuing as normal across all unaffected areas, with assessments under way in the main restaurant, boutique, and excursion facilities,” stated Michelle Davies, general manager of Club Med Pacific.

Unaffected areas operate normally, the pool will reopen soon, and dining has shifted to a secondary restaurant and food truck. The luxury all-inclusive resort, featuring 400 rooms, draws many Australian families to Nusa Dua’s exclusive precinct of high-end hotels and pristine beaches. Rates begin at $2,140 per night.
