Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation on Monday to rename Palm Beach International Airport after President Donald Trump. This action continues a trend of honoring Trump through various buildings, institutions, programs, warships, and currency.
The airport renaming follows Florida’s approval last year of donating a downtown Miami property for Trump’s presidential library. A New York native, Trump relocated to Florida in 2019, shifting his primary residence from a Trump Tower penthouse to the Mar-a-Lago resort in West Palm Beach.
Renaming Process Ahead
Before the change takes effect, authorities must file a formal request with the Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA will update flight charts, navigation databases, and airport signage accordingly.
Last week, U.S. Representative Brian Mast proposed a bill to switch the airport’s three-letter code from PBI to DJT, matching Trump’s initials.
Currency Update
The U.S. Treasury confirmed that American paper currency will carry Trump’s signature starting this summer—the first instance of a sitting president signing U.S. money.
Other Trump Namings
Trump’s name appears on a new class of Navy warships, a visa program for wealthy foreign investors, a government prescription drug website, and federal children’s savings accounts.
In December, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts board incorporated Trump’s name into the institution. That same month, the United States Institute of Peace building in Washington added his name following an administration takeover.
Earlier this month, a federal arts panel approved a commemorative gold coin featuring Trump’s image as part of the U.S. Mint’s series celebrating America’s 250th birthday.
In February, the White House acknowledged Trump’s suggestion to release funding for a New York Hudson River tunnel project in exchange for Senator Chuck Schumer backing renames of Washington Dulles Airport and New York Penn Station after him.
