A spectator disrupted the World Snooker Championship semi-final at the Crucible Theatre by shouting about the Epstein Files, leading to his immediate ejection.

The Disruptive Incident

The outburst happened during the deciding 33rd frame between Wu Yize and Mark Allen in Sheffield on Saturday night. As Wu prepared his shot, the fan yelled, “Never forget the Epstein Files,” referencing documents related to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein. The spectator shouted again, prompting referee Marcel Eckardt to intervene sharply.

“Can you get this person out please, now please,” Eckardt demanded. Other fans urged the individual to be quiet, and the interruption was captured on the match broadcast. Images show the fan standing before security escorted him out.

Thrilling Match Conclusion

Wu secured a dramatic 17-16 victory after Allen, leading 16-15, missed a straightforward black. This error allowed Wu to force the decider and clinch the win, advancing to the final.

Prior Stalemate Adds to Drama

The semi-final had already seen chaos on Friday with the longest frame in World Championship history. Eight reds became unpotable due to the black’s position, resulting in prolonged safety play. The crowd grew restless, forcing Eckardt to award three shots each to resolve it.

Allen, holding a strong lead, intentionally fouled by potting the black. Wu rallied to level the session at 7-7 in a frame lasting 100 minutes and 21 seconds.

Reactions from Legends

Six-time world champion Steve Davis called the stalemate “embarrassing.” Seven-time Crucible winner Stephen Hendry labeled it the “dark side of snooker.”
