Bikie Apprehended After Escape, Bitten by Police Dog

A member of an outlaw motorcycle gang, Brandt Graham, is recovering in hospital after being bitten by a police dog during his recapture following a five-day manhunt. Graham had allegedly escaped police custody last week, prompting a widespread search.

Dramatic Escape and Re-capture

The 44-year-old reportedly jumped a dock at Darwin Local Court and fled from security guards during a hearing. This incident led to fresh charges, including escaping lawful custody and possessing a prohibited drug and weapon. Court documents confirm Graham is a patched member of the Mongols motorcycle gang.

During a court appearance on Friday, his defense lawyer informed the Darwin Local Court that Graham was unable to attend in person due to injuries sustained in an incident involving a police dog. He remained in hospital four days after the event.

Search and Arrest

Police reported Graham’s re-arrest on Tuesday. Members of the dog squad apprehended him after intercepting a vehicle in Durack, a suburb outside Darwin. Body-worn camera footage captured Graham attempting to flee again before police patrol dog Cheeko located him in bushland.

The footage shows Graham on the ground as officers from Strike Force Trident detain him. He was later photographed with injuries and his possessions confiscated before being escorted from the bush by police.

Charges and Allegations

At the time of his arrest, officers allege Graham was found with a trafficable quantity of methamphetamine, a butterfly knife, and cash. Northern Territory Police confirmed the Mongols member sustained lacerations to his shoulder and bicep during the apprehension.

Graham is currently under guard by corrective services officers in hospital. It remains unclear if his injuries necessitated surgery.

Previous Charges and Ongoing Investigation

Graham was already facing drug and firearm charges from a prior arrest related to his alleged involvement in a large-scale drug supply ring operating across Darwin and East Arnhem Land.

Authorities had suspected associates were assisting Graham during his time on the run. To date, seven individuals have been arrested on outstanding warrants, breach of bail, and drug-related offenses. One 26-year-old man faces accusations of aiding and abetting his escape.

Court Proceedings

Brandt Graham is scheduled to appear in court again in August to address his three separate matters.
