Jets Wide Receiver Garrett Wilson Expresses Sticker Shock Over NBA Finals Ticket Prices

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson is excited about the prospect of seeing the New York Knicks compete in the NBA Finals, but he admits that the cost of attending games at Madison Square Garden is prohibitive, even for him. The Knicks are making their first appearance in the NBA Finals in nearly three decades, with the team aiming for its first championship since 1973. Their path to glory will see them face Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs, a rematch of the 1999 NBA Finals.

Exorbitant Resale Market Prices

Fans looking to witness the NBA Finals in person are facing significantly inflated prices. On one prominent resale platform, the least expensive ticket available for Game 3 in New York was listed at over $4,700. Tickets for Game 6 were being offered at more than $5,100. The most expensive ticket for Game 6 was listed at an astonishing $224,000.

Wilson’s Financial Reality

These figures are beyond the reach of even Garrett Wilson, who signed a four-year contract extension worth $130 million last year, translating to an average annual salary of $32.5 million. Wilson expressed his enthusiasm for the Knicks’ success but confirmed his inability to attend games due to the steep prices.

“I’m glad I’m up here for it – I’m rooting the Knicks on like hell,” Wilson stated. When questioned about attending the games, he responded, “Them jawns are expensive. So, not yet. I’m gonna be watching.”

Knicks Inspire Jets’ Playoff Aspirations

Wilson also believes the Knicks’ inspiring playoff run is motivating the Jets to break their 15-year playoff drought, the longest active streak in North American professional sports. “The city deserves it,” Wilson continued. “Then, when you see the way they receive it, it’s just like we wish it could happen every year. Seeing the people, the way they get behind their team.”

He added, “I know Jet fans are frothing at the mouth to cheer like that, and we want to give it to them. I personally want to give it to them the most.” Wilson concluded by saying, “That gives us a taste of what it might look like when we figure this thing out… we’re excited for the opportunity.”

The first game of the NBA Finals is scheduled to take place in San Antonio on Wednesday, June 3rd.
