Manchester United’s summer spending spree of over £200 million has paid off, securing Champions League qualification with standout performances from new arrivals Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, and Senne Lammens.

New Signings Transform United’s Campaign

The Red Devils invested heavily last summer, and the results show. Benjamin Sesko has netted 10 goals in 15 appearances since Ruben Amorim’s departure in January. Cunha and Mbeumo have added flair to the attack, combining for 19 goals across all competitions, while Lammens has solidified a once-vulnerable defense.

Hargreaves Singles Out Goalkeeper Lammens

Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves highlights Senne Lammens as the standout signing. The Belgian goalkeeper, acquired for £18 million from Royal Antwerp, quickly overtook Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir to claim the number one spot at Old Trafford.

“I’ll tell you who’s probably been the best signing of all of them: Senne Lammens,” Hargreaves stated. “What did he cost? Not a lot, so he’s been value for money.”

Hargreaves credits the focus on goals from Cunha and Mbeumo, both with Premier League experience, for pushing United to third place. However, he emphasizes the goalkeeper change as crucial: “But I do think if they hadn’t sorted the goalkeeper out, they wouldn’t be in the top four.”

McCoist Backs the Assessment

Ally McCoist concurs, noting the defensive boost. “I don’t think you can underestimate that,” McCoist said. “If you look at United defensively, they had no confidence at all in what was behind them. All of a sudden they have someone who they do have confidence in, and I just think that makes such a big difference.”

Lammens Reflects on Impressive Season

Lammens has impressed consistently, including in the recent goalless draw against Sunderland. “I think I can be proud of the season I’ve been having,” the goalkeeper said. “I had the perfect opportunity and it was the perfect time to come into the team and to grow.”

He added: “It’s been a very good season for me personally. As a team as well, we’ve been growing, and now it’s about the next step. Next season is going to be a big one. Everyone’s going to step up again because while this season was okay, it’s not our end goal. We have to keep building on this and try to get better.”

Manchester United face Nottingham Forest and Brighton in their final Premier League matches.
