Magda Szubanski delivers uplifting news from her stage four cancer battle, announcing remission following chemotherapy completion.
Positive Health Milestone
The 64-year-old comedian, diagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma in 2025, shared the update via social media stories on Friday. She appears vibrant and describes the development as ‘fantastic.’
‘I’ve completed chemo and I am now in remission. Phew!’ Szubanski states. She clarifies, ‘It’s not a cure, but if I’ve got a good remission, hopefully that will mean I’ll be able to keep the cancer at bay for a good long time.’
Gratitude to Fans and Medical Team
Szubanski expresses deep thanks to supporters for their love, which aided her physically and emotionally. ‘And I also wanted to say a special huge thank you to you for all the love and support that you’ve shown,’ she says. ‘So eternal gratitude, thank you so much for that.’
She praises Australia’s medical community as ‘one of the best in the world’ and credits the nation’s practical, compassionate healthcare system. ‘There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t give profound thanks to the medical community… and also to the common sense of the Australian people,’ Szubanski notes.
Addressing Hoaxes and Current Needs
Szubanski takes a jab at online trolls behind a recent hoax claiming her death, captioned falsely as ‘Thank you and goodbye Magda Szubanski. 1961 – 2026.’ She quips, ‘I’m not dead, but I’ll have to check that with social media because they know more about me than I do.’ This marks the second such incident this year, following a January scam using her image for fake donations.
She will miss Sydney’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras this weekend. ‘Happy, happy Mardi Gras, I’m so gutted I can’t be there, it’s unavoidable, but have a wonderful time,’ she tells fans.
Due to her compromised immune system post-chemo, Szubanski requests no hugs from fans despite appreciating their affection.
