Manchester United Could Secure Jarrod Bowen with Unique Offer

Manchester United may need to move swiftly to secure a summer transfer for West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen. Reports suggest that the 29-year-old is expected to depart East London following the Hammers’ relegation to the Championship.

While West Ham reportedly value Bowen at approximately £50 million, indications are that an offer closer to £40 million might be sufficient to finalize a deal. Bowen has been a standout performer in the Premier League this season, contributing 11 goals and 12 assists across all competitions. His impressive form has attracted considerable attention, with Chelsea now reportedly considering a move for the England international.

Squad Number Advantage for United

Crucially for Manchester United, they can present Bowen with an appealing proposition that Chelsea cannot: his preferred squad number. Bowen has predominantly worn the No. 20 shirt throughout his career, including the past six seasons at the London Stadium. This number has become available at Old Trafford following Diogo Dalot’s switch to the No. 2 jersey in preparation for the 2025/26 campaign.

In contrast, Chelsea currently have Joao Pedro occupying the No. 20 shirt at Stamford Bridge. Despite speculation linking Pedro with a potential move to Barcelona, sources indicate that Chelsea are not considering a sale following his impactful debut season.

Interest from Multiple Clubs

Analysis suggests that Chelsea have been monitoring Bowen for some time, aiming to bolster their attacking options with experience and versatility. New manager Xabi Alonso is also understood to be a long-time admirer of the West Ham player. During his tenure at Bayer Leverkusen, Alonso spoke highly of Bowen, stating, “He’s one of the top players for sure, not just in terms of goals, but energy as well. He’s a real threat in their transitions in the last third – he has a great foot, so that’s why he’s one of the top players in the English squad.”

Champions League Football on Offer

However, Bowen’s strong affiliation with the West Ham fanbase might make a move across London to Chelsea a more challenging prospect than a transfer to Old Trafford. Manchester United also offer the significant advantage of Champions League football next season, having secured a third-place finish in the Premier League, ending the campaign 19 points ahead of Chelsea.

Bowen’s Emotional Response to Relegation

Following West Ham’s relegation, Bowen shared an emotional message with supporters on social media. “It’s hard to post something like this when all you’re feeling is embarrassment and pain,” Bowen posted on Instagram. “I could write loads trying to explain where it all went wrong this season, but honestly what you deserve from me is an apology. Winning that trophy in Prague was the best night of my career. Sunday was the worst. We just weren’t good enough. Simple as that. And that’s why the season ended the way it did.””
