The Ottawa Public Library extends its downtown main branch lease until June 30, 2027, due to ongoing delays in opening the new Ādisōke central library. Officials confirm the central branch, originally scheduled for mid-2026, remains under construction with no set opening date.

Lease Extension Details

City staff announced in December that Ādisōke will not open this year. In response, the library board approves a six-month lease extension at a cost of $900,000 plus taxes. The board also authorizes the CEO to approve an additional six-month extension through the end of 2027 if needed, totaling $1.8 million plus taxes.

Further extensions require written notice by the end of June 2026.

Ādisōke, a joint venture between the Ottawa Public Library and Library and Archives Canada on LeBreton Flats, carries a $334 million budget. The project garners nearly $2 million in donations during 2025.
