Phil Parkinson, manager of Wrexham, receives the Freedom of Wrexham County Borough today. Since taking charge in the summer of 2021, he has led the north Wales club through three successive promotions.

Path to the Championship

Councillors unanimously approved the honor following the team’s promotion to the Championship last year. Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Parkinson stated: “It’s an amazing honor for myself and my family to be given that award and I look forward to going down there on Tuesday. One of the key parts of this job and being part of this story over the last five years is the impact on the local community. I’ve enjoyed being a part of that and meeting people in the business world around the town and it’s a real honor for me to be down there on Tuesday.”

Ceremony and Club History

Parkinson signs official documents at Wrexham Guildhall during a 15:00 BST ceremony. He joined the club five months after Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took ownership. Under his leadership, the Red Dragons rose from the National League in the fifth tier to the Championship.

Parkinson features prominently in the acclaimed documentary Welcome to Wrexham, set for at least three more seasons beyond the current one.

Championship Play-Off Push

Despite recent losses to Southampton and Birmingham City, Wrexham holds seventh place in the Championship table. They trail the top six by four points with four matches remaining, keeping play-off hopes alive.
