Senior royals convened in London to celebrate what would have been Queen Elizabeth II’s 100th birthday, while Prince Harry observed the occasion through a personal gesture from his home in Montecito, California.

A Quiet Floral Tribute at Windsor

Prince Harry arranged for flowers to be laid at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, the resting place of his grandmother since September 2022. This chapel holds deep significance for the royal family, housing the late Queen alongside her parents, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, her husband Prince Philip, and sister Princess Margaret.

Pattern of Personal Remembrances

This gesture aligns with Harry’s previous private visits. In 2023, he paid respects at the chapel on the first anniversary of her death during a discreet UK trip. He returned in 2025 for the third anniversary, reflecting quietly at her grave.

Harry’s close bond with the Queen shone through in his public tribute after her passing. “I am forever grateful for all of our first meetings,” he wrote, reminiscing from childhood moments to introducing her to Meghan and their children. “I cherish these times shared with you… You are already sorely missed, not just by us, but by the world over.”

Final Moments and Enduring Legacy

In his memoir Spare, Harry detailed their last phone call days before her death—a conversation covering her health, news, and the unusually dry British summer. En route to Balmoral amid concerns for her condition, he learned of her passing mid-flight via news reports. “I spent much of the flight staring at the clouds, replaying the last time I’d spoken with Granny,” he recounted, noting the shock of realizing “Granny was gone. Pa was King.” The affectionate nickname “Granny” captured their warm, familial connection.

This legacy extends to his family. Harry and Meghan named their daughter Lilibet Diana in June 2021, honoring the Queen’s childhood moniker. During the 2022 Platinum Jubilee, the Queen met great-grandchildren Archie and Lilibet. Harry described Archie’s chivalrous bows and Lilibet’s cuddles around the monarch’s shins, moments that visibly delighted her.
