PRS Unveils Unique Electric Guitar Inspired by Anime Character
A groundbreaking new electric guitar model has emerged, born from the world of anime. PRS has officially launched a signature instrument for Lilisa, a character from the popular series “Rock is a Lady’s Modesty.” This release marks Lilisa’s unexpected entry into the esteemed PRS artist roster, joining a distinguished group of musicians.
From Fiction to Functional Instrument
The “Rock is a Lady’s Modesty” manga series, created by Hiroshi Fukuda, achieved significant success as a television adaptation last year. Capitalizing on this popularity, PRS has transformed the fictional pink six-string wielded by Lilisa into a tangible, playable electric guitar. The new PRS SE Rock Lady is a testament to this fusion of fiction and reality.
Design and Tonewoods Echo Proven Success
The design of the PRS SE Rock Lady draws inspiration from both the established PRS Paul’s Guitar model and the signature instrument PRS created for Kanami Tōno of BAND-MAID in 2024. It features a familiar and highly regarded tonewood combination: a mahogany body, a maple neck, and a rosewood fingerboard. Visually, the guitar stands out with its striking Pink Pearl top, a contrasting black headstock face, a natural-finished back, and distinctive purple-toned pickup bobbins.
Unique Appointments and Electronics
While closely mirroring Lilisa’s on-screen guitar, the instrument incorporates PRS’s signature inlays as a notable deviation. The guitar is equipped with TCI “S” treble and bass pickups, promising “spanky tones and soapbar sounds.” These are complemented by a three-way toggle switch and dedicated mini-switches that allow for coil-tapping of both pickups, offering a versatile range of eight distinct pickup combinations. The Stoptail bridge features specially curved slots with brass inserts, engineered to enhance string contact and resonance. Further aesthetic details include vintage-style tuners and a subtle lily decal adorning the truss rod cover.
A Player’s Guitar, Not Just a Collectible
Jack Higginbotham, COO of PRS, described the project as one of the most creative and unconventional endeavors undertaken by the company in recent times. “Developing a guitar with a fictional artist is not something we do every day,” Higginbotham stated. “It has been a lot of fun, but this is far more than a commemorative display piece – it’s a true player’s guitar, designed for performance and durability.”
It is worth noting that Kanami Tōno not only wrote the theme tune for the TV show but also performed it with her band, BAND-MAID. The band also contributed motion capture performances to enhance the realism of the on-screen music sequences.
Limited Edition Availability
The PRS SE Rock Lady is a limited edition release, with only 690 units produced. It is available for purchase at a price of $999. Further details can be found on the PRS website.
