American Socialite Discovered Deceased in Sao Paulo Hotel Following Cosmetic Procedure
An American art socialite has been found dead in a luxury hotel in Sao Paulo, Brazil, under circumstances authorities are investigating as suspicious. The discovery was made by her plastic surgeon at the Rosewood Sao Paulo on Sunday.
The surgeon reportedly went to check on Hilde Lynn Helphenstein, 40, after being unable to contact her by phone. Upon entering the hotel room, an empty vodka bottle, prescription medication, and broken glass were reportedly found. Local officials have since initiated an investigation into the death.
Prominent Art World Figure
Helphenstein had been in Brazil for approximately three weeks, having traveled to the city for a plastic surgery procedure. She was known in the art world as the creator of the popular Instagram account, Jerry Gogosian. This page, which garnered over 152,000 followers, featured the artist’s often sarcastic commentary on the art industry and her experiences within it.
The Jerry Gogosian account was launched anonymously in 2018, with Helphenstein revealing her identity two years later. Despite announcing in June 2025 that she would be stepping back from managing the page, she had reportedly continued to post content as recently as this past week.
Hotel Statement and Investigation
A spokesperson for the Rosewood Sao Paulo confirmed that a guest, identified as Hilde Ann Lynn, was found deceased on the afternoon of Sunday, May 31. The hotel stated that it has been cooperating fully with the authorities since the incident, providing all requested information to aid in the investigation.
The hotel added that out of respect for the privacy of the guest, their family, and the ongoing work of the authorities, no further details would be released at this time.
