Victoria Beckham finds it challenging to unplug from her fashion and beauty business during family vacations. The designer often steps away from her husband, David Beckham, and their children to handle work matters discreetly.
Relentless Dedication to Her Brand
Beckham launched her fashion label in 2008 with a debut collection of 10 dresses in New York. She worked closely with her team to develop a signature aesthetic that stood out as authentically hers, ensuring it transcended a mere celebrity venture.
Beckham has shared: “I’m the kind of person that will be on holiday, and I’ll go to the bathroom and sort of hide and make calls and send emails and be working so that my family don’t know, because I can’t switch off. This isn’t just a job.”
Financial Support and Turnaround
David Beckham invested around $30 million into the company via his DB Ventures to bolster its growth. Victoria Beckham emphasizes their partnership, stating: “We share everything, and so we were both supporting the business really at a time where financially we weren’t really in a position to do that.”
About five years ago, the brand carried roughly $68 million in debt after 14 years of losses. It achieved profitability in 2022, driven by its makeup line. Beckham takes great pride in this milestone, noting: “At a time when we’re reading so much about how fashion is really struggling, the huge houses are really struggling, to be an independent brand, be profitable, fashion in its own right—clothing is selling and we are profitable independent of beauty—is something that I’m so proud of.”
Shifts in Family Presence
The Beckham children—Brooklyn, Cruz, Romeo, and Harper—have traditionally supported their mother by attending her fashion shows front row with their father. However, at Paris Fashion Week in March, Brooklyn, 27, and his wife, Nicola Peltz-Beckham, were noticeably absent.
Two months earlier, Brooklyn posted on Instagram about family tensions, claiming: “The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into.” He added: “My family values public promotion and endorsements above all else. Brand Beckham comes first.”
