The administration has responded to a legal challenge aimed at preventing a UFC fight from being held on the White House lawn, advising plaintiffs to simply “avert their gaze.” Officials are asserting the event’s legality and arguing that the lawsuit was filed too late.

Residents Seek to Halt UFC Event

Two individuals residing in the Washington D.C. area have petitioned a U.S. District Judge for an immediate order to stop the scheduled June 14 UFC event. Their core contention is that sporting events are not permitted on the White House’s South Lawn. Furthermore, they claim the 92-foot-tall octagon structure being erected for the fight has not received the necessary approval from Congress.

Allegations of Unlawful Authorization

The lawsuit also alleges that the National Park Service and the Interior Department improperly authorized the event. Plaintiffs are seeking to have this approval overturned.

“UFC Freedom 250” Tied to Presidential Birthday

The event, branded “UFC Freedom 250,” is reportedly scheduled to coincide with Donald Trump’s 80th birthday. Weigh-ins for the event are planned to take place at the Lincoln Memorial.

Administration’s Defense: ‘Avert Their Gazes’

In a court filing, the administration argued that the plaintiffs have failed to demonstrate a likelihood of success in their claims or explain how they would be personally harmed by the event. A statement within the filing read, “It would be easy enough to simply avert their gazes for the weekend.” The filing further stated, “Instead, they seek to enlist the power of a federal court to impose their idiosyncratic preferences on the rest of the country and ruin an event designed to celebrate the United States of America.”

Plaintiffs’ Counterargument: Public Monuments

In response, the plaintiffs asserted, “This nation’s public monuments should not be loaned out for private exploitation.”

Historical Precedent and Regulations

However, the administration maintained that existing regulations do not prohibit such events. Officials pointed to the White House South Lawn’s history of hosting public gatherings as support for their position.

Long-Standing Ties to UFC

Donald Trump’s involvement with UFC dates back to the early 2000s, when he hosted events at his former casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. UFC Chief Executive Dana White is known to be a close associate of Trump.

Lawyers representing the plaintiffs have not yet provided immediate comment on the developing situation.
